The Inside Out Story

Inside Out Counselling and Consulting is led by Michelle Ormsby, a PACFA Registered Clinical Counsellor specialising in parenting, anxiety, burnout, and ADHD support.

Michelle brings 20 years of experience across child protection, schools, youth justice, and family services in both government and community settings. Her approach is trauma-informed, neuro-affirming, and deeply relational, shaped by her professional counselling work and her lived experience as a parent and late-diagnosed ADHDer.

Michelle’s career began as a disability support worker while studying psychology. Her work has taken her from Sydney to Glasgow and Edinburgh, where she supported young people and adults experiencing homelessness and addiction.

As a former school counsellor and qualified yoga and meditation teacher, she weaves together child development, attachment theory, mindfulness, and somatic tools to help people strengthen relationships, regulate emotions, and find more ease in everyday life.

Michelle practices what she shares. Her yoga and mindfulness practice began two decades ago as self-care, and it still grounds her today. When she’s not working, you’ll find her riding her bike, ocean swimming, catching up over coffee, and soaking up music and art.

Who We WorkWith

At Inside Out Counselling, we work with adults, parents, and young people 16+. Currently, we do not work directly with children under 16. Instead, we often support parents through a child development and attachment focused lens. By holding your child and family in mind, we collaborate to strengthen relationships, mental health, and wellbeing.

We welcome all lived experience of gender, identity, and disability. Many of our clients are navigating one or more of the following:

In addition to our core specialties, we have experience working with:

Counselling

At Inside Out, our primary focus is individual counselling. However, there are times in our work with families when it is helpful for both parents to attend sessions together.

We recognise that ‘being a good fit’ and the therapeutic relationship are the most important and powerful drivers for change in therapy.

After establishing safety, and a collaborative therapeutic relationship with clear goals, we draw on evidence-based counselling approaches including:

While these are our main approaches, we have trained in several other modalities and may integrate these where appropriate. As part of our registration with PACFA, we regularly participate in professional development to maintain best practices.
